Facilitating Design Sprints & Agile Framework for Heineken

Context

Heineken was going through a digital transformation. As someone who had experience running design sprints and working with Agile frameworks for 2 years prior to joining Heineken, I helped out the Digital Transformation team in Indonesia, APAC, and Belgium to start introducing Agile Framework to a few projects in 2019 - 2020.

Role

  1. Facilitated Design Sprints related to the creation of Business to Business (B2B) eCommerce app for Asia Pacific Region.

  2. Coached and helped facilitate applying Agile Framework to a few marketing projects for Heineken Indonesia (Bir Bintang) and Heineken Belgium (Desperados).

What is a Design Sprint?

It’s a framework for answering critical business questions through understanding customers, prototyping ideas, and testing them with the customer in 5 days. It is a quick way to test whether or not an idea would work before spending too much time and effort developing an idea.

  1. The first day is spent on setting up a long-term goal and narrowing down a question that we want to answer within a week. After that, we will invite experts who can shed light on our users, their needs, and the companies’ strategy. By the end of day one, we would have narrowed down who is the most important customer and what’s the critical moment of the customer experience that we want to focus on.

  2. On day two, we would start looking at competitors/ inspirations to understand how others have solved this problem. Then each of the participants would sketch out their ideas on how to solve the problems.

  3. On the third day, the team would pick the best idea (or combine multiple ideas into one), and create an ideal experience that would solve customers’ problems.

  4. On the fourth day, the team would build a prototype to test the idea.

  5. On the last day, the team would test the prototype to the customers and get real feedback on what works and what doesn’t work from the prototype.
